My name is Tammy Shaw, and I live with my family in beautiful Southern Arizona! I am married to a wonderful man, Doug, and I have two precious children, Brittany - 12 years old, and Matthew - 6 years old. Our family also includes 4 dogs - 3 Jack Russell Terriers and a Lab-Shepherd mix - Spunky, Jake, Bali and our puppy Sam. We have lived here for 3 years now, and have come to enjoy the many wonders of the desert.
Although I was born in Chicago, I spent most of my growing-up years in La Porte, Indiana - a small town near Lake Michigan. In my younger days I enjoyed golfing, swimming and water skiing. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Valparaiso University (Indiana) in 1982, and my Master’s degree from Wright State University (Ohio) in Mental Health Counseling in 1985. I spent nearly 10 years working as a counselor at American Lake Veteran’s Administration hospital in Tacoma, WA before deciding to dedicate my time and talents to my children and family.
I began home schooling my daughter in first grade, and can hardly believe we’ve been doing it for 6 years now! I have always enjoyed writing, and have developed much of my own curriculum. If I can’t find a curriculum or teaching tool that I need, I have been known to write my own! In fact, that is exactly how my first book got started! Bright Beginnings is a user-friendly curriculum manual for parents who would like to teach their young child at home. It is being published by American Book Publishing and should be available later in 2002. Please see my website at www.bright-beginnings.net or www.shawchristianacademy.com for more information.
