I was born and raised on Long Island. I am a proud to be a breast cancer survivor and advocate. Much of my energy is focused on breast cancer education, awareness and research.
As a mother, I am proud of my three kids. I was a single mom for most of their formative years and I did the best I could. Now, my youngest has started his college career and I'm pleased that they have all turned into genuinely caring, self-sufficient young adults.
I started out in college as an English major and switched to French. Languages came easily for me and I speak fluent French, passable Spanish and Italian and basic Greek, a little German and a few phrases in Japanese.
Because money was always tight, I had a wide variety of part-time jobs to supplement our income - I sold Tupperware, owned and operated a dance and baton twirling studio for 20+ years, became a real estate sales person and appraiser and worked as a tax examiner for the IRS. I currently work in a major teaching hospital as the office manager. I still prepare taxes from January through April for about 200 clients and I manage to fit in some residential and commercial real estate appraisals when the opportunity arises.
Writing has always been my first love. I began writing short stories and poetry in elementary school. In college, I was a published poet. I currently write an online bi-weekly column about breast cancer. I designed and instruct an 8 lesson online course about coping with breast cancer.
Children, cancer, fund raising and education are my areas of expertise. I plan on submitting several more guides - related to women's health, more about raising your kids (and dealing with them!) and perhaps about fund raising. (With 3 kids in sports, competitive baton twirlers and dancers, I've done lots of fund raising over the years!)
I'm always willing to listen and offer whatever help I can.
