My name is Janet Kay Blaylock. I have always wanted to
pursue writing as a career as well as other types of
work that I could do at home such as piano teaching,
which I have been doing since 1962. I have also taken
several correspondence writing courses.
Besides my piano teaching and writing courses, I have a
BGS Degree in Human Development and Family Life from
the University of Kansas. Later on, I went back to
Washburn University and received a BA Degree in the
College of Liberal Arts. My major was English with a
writing emphasis.
The first thing I ever had published was a craft
project titled "My Thank You Calendar," which was
published in "Together Time," a Church of the Nazarene
publication. They gave me permission to make up the
projects and sell them in stores or privately.
In November, 1998, I started writing for Suite101.com.
I started out as a contributing editor for my site that
I titled "Detective Fiction." Since that time, I
changed my topic to "Mysteries" I am covering all
aspects of mysteries and the subgenres.
Later on, I started another site titled "Writing
Mysteries."
This year, I adopted four other sites titled "Creative
Journal Writing Ideas," "Classic Literature," "British and American
Literature: 1900 to Today," and "English Grammar and
Style." I also developed another site titled "General
Book Reviews."
Besides writing and submitting articles once a month as
a contributing editor, I am also a managing editor and
a copy editor with Suite101.com.
In addition to these duties, I am a course developer and
instructor for Suite University. I have written and
have been teaching a course titled "Writing Suspense,
Detective Fiction, and Thrillers." This course will be
split into two courses titled "Mysteries" and "Writing
Mysteries." I have also written and have been teaching
"Developing Basic Grammar Skills."
I am in the process of developing other courses for
Suite University and for UniversalClass.
I also do book reviews. I have two publishing
companies who have contacted me about writing reviews
for various authors. I have enjoyed reading the books
and writing the reviews. My reviews are published on
my sites with Suite101.com. From "General Book
Reviews," you can go to my other sites. The link is

In the past, I have been a family day care provider,
nanny, and a substitute teacher.
Now, I am working at home as a freelance instructor,
writer, and online tutor. I am also a caregiver for my
father, and I have four dogs that I enjoy.
