The Author's Page of Geoffrey Ian Miller
I was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1959. I first became
interested in gardening at the age of 15 when I started growing climbing
beans. From that I worked general garden maintenance. In 1979 my parents
bought a farm at Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. We grew avocadoes and
macadamia nuts commercially and vegetables for ourselves. At this point I
realised the harm synthetic pesticides were doing to our environment.
In 1985 we sold the farm. I bought 4 acres in another part of the coast and
grew custard apples. I sold the farm in 1989 so I could study for an
Associate Diploma in Horticulture. In 1992/93 I was an intern with the Ohio
State Agricultural Exchange Program. I worked at a mixed horticultural
business in Columbus, Ohio for 9 months. For the final 3 months I worked at
a Nursery in Los Angeles.
After coming back to the Sunshine coast I bought into a nursery
co-operative. In 1996 I decided that I needed more brain stimulus, so I
sold the business. I began studying environmental science while developing
a talent for writing. I changed over to arts communication in 1998. I have
written organic gardening material for various websites.
Some follow-up guides will be vegetable growing, propagation and fruit trees
and vines.
