Author page of Dave Brandl

Dave Brandl has worked in Denver's theatrical scene since 1980, as actor, director, and playwright. He began writing his first play in 1988. It was produced in 1989 and published the following year. Of his 31 stage scripts completed to date, 19 are now published through five North American publishers; three are produced 20 to 30 times annually across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. He also writes scripts for movies, documentaries, television, advertising, and corporate uses.

In 1998, he became the Playwriting editor for Suite101.com, an online publishing community. He has written over 70 articles on various aspects of playwriting and writing in general. His web page receives about 5,000 hits each month. He answers questions from other playwrights, offers advice, moderates related discussions, researches related web sites, and leads a playwriting support group.

Reader requests led him to start up a script evaluation service, wherein he receives scripts from individuals all over the world. After reading a script, he writes up a comprehensive evaluation for the playwright. Much of this work is repeat business; playwrights who send additional scripts and revised scripts to review. Over the years, he has also read and evaluated hundreds of scripts for publishers, producers, contests, and festivals.

Brandl wrote theatre reviews for Denver newspapers from 1998 to 2002, contributed to Theatre.com in 2000, and added an article to the Screenwriters and Playwrights Home Page in 1996. He speaks about playwriting and theatrical journalism at regional writer's organizations, conferences, and local colleges.
